Grocery shopping is eating at me lately
I used to enjoy going out into the vast world to pick berries and gather supplies to run the hut ... uh, I mean household. Now I detest the job.

Shaken but not blurred
One must learn to expect the unexpected – participate in what’s known as “hindsight bias” and try to imagine that events are more predictable than they really are. Stating that almost makes me feel a tiny bit in control.

Say what?
While I don’t enjoy feeling chilled as much as I have lately, it’s not the cool temps I find most bothersome, but rather the gray dreary skies that often accompany them.

Citizen Police Academy forming
As a graduate of the Baytown Citizen Police Academy, I promised to let you all know when the next class was forming.

Freeze-dried insight
My yard looks awful. Most of the plant life is crunchy, dull brown, and decaying.

Measure your feats
I sort of pride myself on being a repository of useless knowledge. It’s an occupational hazard and probably a danger to what few good brain cells I have left, but given writing’s many other maladies, I’ll take it.

Weather you like it or not
Being an outdoorsy kind of girl who needs plenty of fresh air and sunshine to survive requires me to keep track of the weather. I recall the last cold snap we had of this magnitude because I was home with a newborn.

It’s been an experimental year
I recently read A.J. Jacobs’ The Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life as an Experiment, where A.J. makes himself a human guinea pig in “radical lifestyle experiments.”

Spread the cheer throughout the year
Pardon me while I sigh and fall into a chair.

‘Twas the week of Christmas
I’ve been mildly scolded in the past for saying there’s not a thing in the old noggin to write about, but sometimes, ‘tis true.

Saved by the Christmas bell
All right, so I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately. Actually, and since I’m among friends, a “bit” doesn’t do my funk justice.

Celebrating big events
Imagine if you will a strobe-lit room filled with balloons, streamers, and me throwing confetti above my head. Today marks a special day for me, and I decided to throw myself a little party. Welcome to episode 100 of my column!

Hustle to the bustle
Now that Thanksgiving is over, let the hustle and bustle begin! In recent years, retailers forced us into Christmas mode the day after Halloween; some sneaky ones started before that.

Driving record took another hit
For those of you who enjoyed my brush with the law and ensuing speeding ticket, that confession wasn’t the end
November 21, 2009
In my defense
I have a little confession to make: Back in August I was caught in a moment of lawlessness and was singled out by an officer of the law.

Catch some happiness
There isn’t a day, week, or month left on the calendar that isn’t set aside to observe, commemorate, or otherwise notice a cause, individual, or group

Jack and I sick of tricks
Happy Halloween! I hope this finds you all scaring up some fun – even if you don’t officially celebrate.

Starbooks gets 5 stars
The planets and stars were in proper alignment Tuesday evening at The Whatley Estate, and I took off the evening mom/chef/tutor hat for something I’ve always wanted to do.

An escape from the jacket
As a first-born stick-in-the-mud (I’ve mentioned that about myself a time, or maybe two. Can you tell I have a complex?) I take most of what life sends my way far too seriously.

Swatting builds endurance
I joined the SWAT team this week. Before you start thinking I’ve taken my recent participation in the Citizens Police Academy too far, I assure you it’s not what it may seem.
